After Dark Energy comes the Dark Lotus. Gary, Indiana producer Jlin, whose debut album was one of our 50 favorite releases last year, has announced via Facebook that a 12-inch called “Dark Lotus” will arrive in February 2017, followed by a new album called Black Origami in May 2017. [UPDATE: In our original story, we said that “Dark Lotus” is the title of her new album. Jlin has clarified and said that it’s called Black Origami and will be out in May 2017.]
Black Origami was originally announced in April. Jlin has described the material as “very far left of footwork,” the genre her eclectic, texture-driven music has usually been pegged as by critics. Just a few days ago, Jlin shared a rather dark remix of Factory Floor’s “Wave;” she also dropped a new song earlier this year, as part of the Adult Swim singles series. Listen to “Downtown” below:
