Just a few days before the holidays, The Talkhouse premiered “Little Hollywood”: an offbeat children’s story penned by Satomi Matsuzaki, best known as the singer of Deerhoof. The tale, illustrated by artist Kyotaro and narrated by Matsuzaki, tells the story of Little Lavender and her frightening but ultimately happy encounter with an amorphous, slimy creature called Little Hollywood.
Matsuzaki’s piece comes from Stories of Ways and Means, “a 350+ page hardcover book of unique stories and illustrations benefitting children’s literacy programs.” The book was put together by Waxploitation’s Jeff Antebi and also includes tales by Tom Waits, Devendra Banhart, Frank Black, Justin Vernon, Nick Cave, and others. The first limited edition can be pre-ordered here.
