After Future Islands danced their way into our nation’s (and David Letterman’s) heart with their catchy, appropriately titled breakthrough Singles, it’s safe to say that their has been some anticipation for the eventual follow-up. Or, as Samuel T. Herring himself would growl it, “HAWEBEENWAITINONYOU OO OO, to release a new album.” Now, scary, bearded David Letterman can rest easy at last: The Far Field, Future Islands’ fifth album, is out April 7 via 4AD.
Along with the announcement of The Far Field, the band has also shared “Ran,” the album’s first single. Future Islands songs have a way of worming into your brain, until they’re so lodged in it, you can’t stop grooving to them. And the grooving only grows in intensity with each subsequent listen. “Ran” is no different. Seriously, as I listen to “Ran” and type this at my desk, my feet won’t stop busting increasingly intricate moves.
Listen to “Ran” and check out all of Future Islands’ upcoming tour dates (including sets at Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Panorama) below, and look out for the band’s triumphant re-return to American late-night television on the February 9 edition of The Tonight Show.
