Tiny Mix Tapes

Second Woman (members of Telefon Tel Aviv and Belong) announce second album (but who’s counting?)

·

Second Woman are Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) and Turk Dietrich (Belong). RA once called their music “Elizabeth Fraser doing interpretive dance.” Sounds about right. But their twitchy, blown-out rhythms also sound like taking a Lorenzo Senni MIDI line and accidentally dragging it from the synth to the drum track in your DAW. The result is a hypnotically jagged music, like shards of ice poking through the intersection point of techno, footwork, and IDM.

Their latest, S/W, is out April 21 on Spectrum Spools, but you can pre-order it here. It follows January’s E/P, which featured two new tracks alongside remixes by Jlin and Fluxion, and jettisons the AFX-styled track titles of their first release in favor of a series of numerical slash marks, as if to say “This isn’t about the underlying code anymore — it’s about the structure the code creates.” Check out the fourth track (“////”) down below.
