We’re in the garden waiting for mum to make us lunch, swatting at butterflies with our butterfly nets, feelin’ hungry & giddy in the summer sunlight, knowing that in half-an-hour there will be madeleines, rainbow cookies, & raspberry chocolate truffles at the lunch table, in addition to the little triangle sandwiches we love so much, filled with juicy sopresatta, tangy muenster, & a spicy homemade mayo.
People are arriving: tall men in suits, small women in dresses, &, more importantly, children our age, who conceal toys inside of their pockets. Everyone will want to wander around our ginormous maze. & in the corner, on the stone bench near the fountain—right next to the Cupid statue—lovers will kiss.
