Waxahatchee announces new album Out in the Storm, shares video for “Silver,” goes on tour, requests non-humorous headline

·

Listen. Katie Crutchfield, the seemingly nigh-invulnerable pop-protagonist behind “guitar-based” rock and/or roll band Waxahatchee (pronounced “Waxahatchee”) doesn’t have time to fuck around.

She’s way, way, WAY too busy announcing the July 14 release of her fourth album (and follow-up to 2015’s Ivy Tripp) Out in the Storm for Merge Records, releasing music videos for its constituent songs, and touring the ENTIRE WORLD to just “sit around” while TMT writes one of those jerk-off, meander-y, “humor-based” news stories we’re always cranking out.

NO weird analogy-shtick about Benjamin Franklin flying kites “out in the storm” until he made a genius discovery that benefited all of mankind.

NO jokes about the first single “Silver” being a Pixies cover. (It’s not a Pixies cover; it’s a song “about self-examination and the different shapes that takes, good and bad. I wanted it to be abstract and poetic, but I also wanted to align it with the other songs on the album, since they’re all so connected lyrically.”)

NO…whatever else.

Just the FACTS, man. And quick:

Recording studio? Boom: Miner Street in Philly. (December, 2016; recorded “mostly live” for HUGE GUITARS)

Recording/mixing/producing guy? Bam: John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, GUITARY SHIT)

Band mates? Pow: sister Allison Crutchfield on keys and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, Ashley Arnwine on drums, (Sleater-Kinney touring guitarist) Katie Harkin on trombone (oops, I mean: duh, ADDITIONAL GUITARS).

Press quote? Blamm-o: “[Crutchfield’s] most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life, the blazing result of a woman reawakened.” (N.B: there’s actually a lot more to this; check out her recent interview with Lenny for more about the “toxic relationship” that informed her writing process.)

Anything else? Quick, quick, quick, let’see…I guess pre-orders (e.g. the deluxe 2xLP version that “includes an exclusive bonus LP of demo versions of the entire album pressed on cloud white vinyl plus a 12” x 24” poster”)? Okay, yeah. CHECK.

The tour w/ New Pornographers. Oh yeah, I’ll just throw those dates down at the bottom. The News Editor can fix all that shit later…

Uhhh…The album is out July 14 on Merge! Oh wait, fuck, I already mentioned that. (Shit, now I look stupid! Quick! Cut to the video, full trackslist, and dates!)
