Late last month, JAY-Z released his new album, 4:44. Well, not so much released it as made the album available to customers of TIDAL and Sprint. Annoying for the majority of us who don’t use TIDAL nor Sprint, sure, but actually rather clever when you consider that the album’s title is a series of fours and that both TIDAL and Sprint are fourth best in their respective industries!
Regardless, 4:44 proceeded to reach platinum status in less than a week, despite not having any actual sales to speak of. But despite that, 4:44 failed to reach the Billboard charts due to the fact that TIDAL did not report their streaming numbers, and that all of the Sprint-based downloads apparently won’t count. Who knows, the music industry makes no damned sense; the album has since been released physically, as well as via TIDAL, Sprint, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon, and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium… but definitely not via Spotify. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, JAY-Z will be fine. He’s actually going on tour now! Way to pull through, man! Check out all of his upcoming dates down below.
