I probably wouldn’t even normally be sitting here telling you all this, but…let’s face facts, guys: A) Trent Reznor’s whole CREEPY BADASS ZOMBIE-ELVIS SEX SYMBOL CACHE HAS NEVER BEEN HIGHER. And B) I FUCKING LOVE a plausible excuse for WRITING THINGS IN CAPS, and Nine Inch Nails are perfect for that kind of intense-looking shit. So yeah; let’s DO THIS, before it’s too late!
First: Reznor (and…Atticus Ross, I guess?) announced a new EP just last week, entitled ADD VIOLENCE. Being billed as a companion to last December’s Not The Actual Events EP, the new one is out THIS FRIDAY — July 21 — on digital (which, only in NIN’s case, strikes me as the “preferred format” anyway). It also includes a limited-edition “physical component” which “COMMENCES SHIPPING WEEK OF AUGUST 7” when you pre-order it directly from the CAPS MASTER himself.
Oh, and there’s also a full-on-obsolete CD edition “COMING SEPTEMBER 1,” in case your family’s minivan still has a CD player in it or whatever.
Second: he/they also unveiled the EP’s first single, the satisfyingly-profane “LESS THAN,” via a suitably mind-bending video clip “DIRECTED BY BROOK LINDER.” (I swear, this shit is all totally written in CAPS on their website!)
Third: just yesterday, he/they unveiled the EP’s elaborate BACK COVER, stating on NIN.com: “REMEMBER WHEN RECORDS HAD BACK COVERS? NO? MAYBE THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT.” You can puzzle over it for yourself down below.
Forth: THIS MORNING, we got a second cut from the EP, an artwork-themed video clip for the stumbling, delay-soaked, undead-ballad “THIS ISN’T THE PLACE.” You can check it (as well as last week’s clip) right underneath that IMPORTANT-AS-FUCK back cover, followed by the full EP tracklist (WRITTEN IN ALL-CAPS, PLUS SOME MORE SWEARING) and a list of the “band’s” upcoming live appearances.
DON’T BE A PRUDE. CHECK IT ALL OUT:
