Self-defined as a “virtual illusion and fe/male reality at the same time,” identity-jamming artist Serena Butler is back at the controls for another rack of dub techno. Following their (great) debut last year on Eerie, Serena has devised From The Cloud To Our Bodies, four tracks of deep journeys into the boundary-erasing space where future technology and the ancient machine of the human body intersect. Oh yeah, and also…it’s a banger.
Go forth and get ye plugged into “Your Past. Your Future. Your Very Light,” the opening track on From The Cloud…, which we have the honor of premiering today. While listening, take in the xenofeminism manifesto, heavily referenced in Butler’s background notes, as you prepare for the EP to drop on September 29 (pre-order it from distributors Lobster Theremin here).
From The Cloud To Our Bodies also inaugurates Bene Tleilax, a new imprint partially overseen by Butler, described as “a multicellular soft tissue open to every kind of guests, but mostly women and queer artists. We invite contamination as a mutational driver between organic and post-digital realms.” Right on?
Right on. In the words of the Serena Butler themself:
Believe in biohacking, believe in your deepest emotions. Mix them without fear. It’s time to merge.
