For all the years both they and I have been living together on this planet, and given the fact that we share the same nation of origin, it’s astonishing that Canada’s most trusted instrumental artisans Do Make Say Think and I have only crossed paths once. Live, the band was locked in a precision-built co-dependence and drenched in an authenticity sweat that only comes with a deep dedication to the cause. Indeed, Do Make Say Think has been creating complex torrents of free-flowing, idea-driven rock music for years, producing seven stellar long players and building a rabid fan base along the way. The group have announced a string of eight dates beginning on November 10 in its nation’s capital.
Except for a hometown show or two, these are the first North American live dates for the Toronto troupe in eight years, so they’re sure to be warm “welcome back” events from a band that can go from goosepimple-inducing beauty to ferocious grinding propulsion in less time than it takes one of those robot-powered rocket cars to go from 0-to-60. The shows are sure to showcase the band’s latest masterclass in instro-post-rock Stubborn Persistent Illusions, which was released back in May on Constellation. We don’t report on things you should not see, so channel your inner flannel-wearing Canadian and go see these!
