Gyda Valtýsdóttir, one of the co-founders of renowned Icelandic outfit múm, celebrated the worldwide release of her most recent solo album Epicycle last month. The record pays tribute — “is a love letter” — to her literally millennia-spanning influences and features minimal avant-classical renditions of their work performed by Gyda and friends.
“Louange à l’éternité de Jésus,” the wonderful piece whose accompanying visuals we’re delighted to be premiering, was originally composed by celebrated French composer and organist Olivier Messiaen in 1941. Gyda’s intimate rendition of his composition is accompanied by stunning imagery of flowing oil, acrylic, and other paint (courtesy of Perry Hall). Revel in it below.
Epicycle is out now worldwide via figureight and is also available on (relatively) limited 12-inch vinyl.
