The Helen Scarsdale Agency has announced that a memorial concert and gallery installation will soon be held in remembrance of Seattle-based musician/artist Matt Shoemaker, who tragically took his own life back in August of last year.
The concert will be held at the Chapel Performance Space inside Seattle’s Good Shepherd Center on Saturday, May 5, featuring performances from Climax Golden Twins, Jim Haynes, Colin Andrew Sheffield, and Dave Knott. More information about the concert and its performers can be found through the Wayward Music Events Series.
In addition to the live performances, an installation of Shoemaker’s paintings, audio recordings, and photographs will be on view at Seattle’s Jack Straw New Media Gallery from April 13 - May 18 under the title Brain Goreng. Information on the New Media Gallery and the Jack Straw Cultural Center can be found here.
Last but certainly not least, Helen Scarsdale has announced that it will be publishing two previously unreleased Shoemaker recordings as a pair of cassettes on Friday, May 18. The backlogged tracks, produced under the hitherto unknown Fosil Sangiran pseudonym, were recorded between 2012-2013 in Java, Indonesia, where Shoemaker had spent a considerable amount of time over the years.
Pre-order options for both the cassette and digital formats of the tracks can be found here (cassette one: Pasar Fosil) and here (cassette two: Khayal Kuno). All profits from the tapes will be donated to the Jack Straw Cultural Center.
