A mere three years running, and The Broad in Los Angeles is already an immensely popular museum, home to international exhibits and offering free admission when it comes to their permanent collection. Which kind of begs the question as to how the museum plans to manage to cushion its long-term finances — short of instituting an in-house hot dog vendor in the near future.
Hmm. Maybe special events like the annual Summer Happenings at the Broad are enough to keep museum above the water financially? Maybe past performances from artists like Xiu Xiu, SOPHIE, and Elysia Crampton have inspired additional donations from members of the hip Hollywood elite, like Shuri from Black Panther and Channing Tatum? After all, this series is certainly stacked enough to be a draw for such cool, elite humans.
Well, alert to the cool, elite humans of 2018: the details for this year’s edition of Summer Happenings at The Broad have just been revealed. And, as with the previous two editions, it includes four Saturday “happenings” taking place once a month from June through September. Each happening essentially consists of musical performances in various spots around the museum; and this year, you can look forward to artists like Gang Gang Dance (June 30), Tara Jane O’Neil (June 30), Pharmakon (July 28), Lonnie Holley (July 28), Total Freedom (July 28), Matmos (July 28), Aïsha Devi (August 25), Kim Gordon (September 29), and YoshimiO (September 29).
That’s really just a fraction of the total number of artists, though; so head over to The Broad’s website for full lineup(s). Tickets for these suave and swanky soirées are actually relatively cheap too…if you ask little old not-elite me!
