Way back in the halcyon days of May 2018, news appeared indicating the end of Canadian producer David Psutka masquerading as Egyptrixxx, and giving rise to ACT! The new project already has an album on the way, to be known as Universalist, with a July 13 release date through Psutka’s very own Halocline Trance imprint. The record is said to contain “baroque, kaleidoscope electronics; material sound for a disembodied world,” and this writer is believing it, with the premiere of “Lava Valley,” streaming below. I can say this brief nugget has me discombobulated and feeling pulled apart, as if the club vibe suddenly took a darker, rawer turn. But never fear, for the record comes back to the effervescent, neon mecahnics heard on the album opener, “Ecstatica/On Patrol.” Dig into this fresh taste from ACT!, and scope the remainder of Universalist when it drops in a month.
