Hey, you all know Tim, right?
Well, Tim’s got that new album coming on Kranky at the end of the month, you know? So, he’s decided to release a new song from it called “Keyed Out” and schedule a few more live dates (in the company of a full ensemble of “traditional Japanese Gagaku musicians,” no less!) to help keep us all interested! Isn’t that nice of him? And savvy too!
Tim, Tim! Come over here; don’t be shy. Tell us a little bit about “Keyed Out,” why don’t you?
The track was written over several sessions and finished in a small temple on the outskirts of Tokyo, during one of our initial trips to record with Motonori. I wanted to resist the temptation to overload the music with layers and layers of hyper-edited texture, as if that would help the piece become more whole. The song is a lonely deteriorating synth line, refracted and isolated, played alongside a small court music ensemble on what was a crisp birdsong-filled November morning.
Wow! “Birdsong,” he says! Interesting! Isn’t that interesting? I told you all this guy was interesting! Eh? EH!?
Eh.
