Tiny Mix Tapes

Tashi Wada and co. (incl. Julia Holter) ann. tour in supp. of Nue, share new vid.

·

Ever notice how there aren’t any Spice Girl fathers in the video for the song “Wannabe”? Potential suitors apparently didn’t need to “get with” Melanie C’s dad in order to pursue a romantic relationship; which is why it’s so refreshing that musician Tashi Wada recently made room not just for his friends, but also his pops and influential minimalist composer, Yoshi Wada.

Father and son worked in primary conjunction for the recording of FRKWYS Vol. 14 - Nue, which came out just a few weeks ago, and joining them for the sake of the occasional orchestral backing were Corey Fogel, Cole MGN, Simone Forti, Jessika Kenney, Laura Steenberge, and Julia Holter. Then, the telepathic consensus among the group was that they needed an additional (if belated) contributor, so along came director Dicky Bahto to help craft a new video for the track “Mutable Signs” (featuring Tashi and Holter). The work of late filmmaker Paul Clipson was evidently an inspiration.

Fortunately, Tashi’s coming ashore for the sake of a supportive European tour as well. Most of the shows are scheduled for mid-December, but hopefully folks in the LA area take kindly to the short notice — i.e. there’s a show tonight (October 17) at Zebulon, and it’s technically a show of the “record release” variety. If you’re in the area, get out there; everyone and everyone’s parents are going to be there to hear those collaborative drones.
