Prefuse 73 debuts new project Reto A Ichi, announces a double LP The Lapse Of Exchange/Alone Moving Often, and shares three singles

·

Prolific electronic music producer and glitch-hop popularizer Guillermo Scott Herren, better known as Prefuse 73, is about to release his second full-length record this year (this being the first one). After self-admittedly putting the project off for two years, Herren is debuting a new alias, Reto A Ichi, with a double album called The Lapse of Exchange/Alone Moving Often, out via Berlin’s !K7 on November 2. Four singles promoting the release, “No Juntos,” “It’s Her Birthday,” “Criminality,” and “No Contra” are available to stream now.

Of course, Herren has done this before, and not just once: in addition to P23, the producer has put out music as Piano Overlord, Ahmad Szabo, Delarosa & Asora, Savath & Savalas, and a few other monikers (both alone and with collaborators). Reto A Ichi was inspired by the Japanese film and TV franchise Zatōichi, which apparently Herren got to know through a 1971 Spanish-language translation. The album is also a result of a particular change of environment: The Lapse of Exchange was recorded in the heart of New York’s busy Chinatown, from where Herren relocated to a remote stretch of the countryside to pen Alone Moving Often. What he discovered in the process was that “one can be isolated anywhere,” ultimately producing an album that deals with silence and negative space in a much more direct fashion that what past releases as Prefuse 73 have gotten us used to.

The Lapse of Exchange/Alone Moving Often can be pre-ordered here, and you can listen to those four tracks available from the album below:
