Vampire Weekend announce North American tour in support of new album we’re all now just finding out exists

·

Ho hum. Another standard day here at TMT HQ. Finishing up an esoteric five-out-of-five, “EUREKA!” review of the next Kanye album in advance. Listening to this new song “Literally Just the Sounds of Windmills Filtered Through a Compressor and Looped for 90 Minutes.” Stumbling upon a pile of people’s dusty unused news stories?

Ugh, what the hell?? Oh, okay, cool; so we’re just leaving stuff on the floor now??? The hell is this one…hmm: NEW VAMPIRE WEEKEND RECORD?!?! Whoa. What an oversight. I mean, this is BIG. Vampire Weekend is a band your siblings who aren’t even that into “new” music have heard of! This is like, jumbotron-at-Madison-Square-Garden BIG.

Let’s go over some of these details here: Father of the Bride is Vampire Weekend’s fourth album, and their first since Rostam Batmanglij departed the band in 2016. It’s a double album, consisting of 18 tracks over 59 minutes, or a little over one half the length of a Father of the Bride (1991.) The album’s release is scheduled for the vague geochronological epoch known as “spring 2019.” Two new songs have been released together — “Harmony Hall” and “2021” — with two more two-song releases to come in the next two months.

But wait…looks like there’s more here under a layer of dust that is only now just being blown away: Vampire Weekend will be playing some of their biggest headlining shows ever, as they embark on a multiple months long tour of North America. Best to keep your June, August, September, and October free, because Vampire Weekend could be rolling into a town near you. (In July, do whatever you want, apparently; read a good book or something.)

Listen to “Harmony Hall” and “2021” — the first new Vampire Weekend songs in six years — down below, where you can also check out the band’s extensive list of upcoming shows. Father of the Bride is coming out this spring via Columbia Records, and though you can’t pre-order it yet, you can be guaranteed a CD copy of the album by purchasing a ticket online for the tour here.

Wow, and to think, all of this was right here under our noses all along! You would think someone somewhere in music journalism would have already reported on this before us! Oh well. Always happy to be on the cutting edge of all things Vampire Weekend, here, at TMT: your #1 source for the hottest new college rock.™
