Swervedriver confirm US travel plans this fall, cover The Supremes and Gene Clark on new single

·

It is said that those in their quote-unquote “golden years” can recall episodes from their heyday of youth more vividly than they can things that happened yesterday. Although I am a ways away from the twilight of my life, I can distinctly remember when I first heard Oxford’s hard-driving juggernaut riders Swervedriver lo these many years ago. And lo, I cannot for the life of me recall what I had for dinner last night!

A lot has happened with Swervedriver since the exhilarating noise of “Son of Mustang Ford” first bashed and battered my speakers and eardrums in a litany of insidious, violent spasms. But recent activity shows the band are far from its “declining ‘n’ reclining” years as well.

Since reuniting in 2008, the Swervies have consistently toured and issued new material that has matched anything from their boisterous, pre-hiatus back catalog (see this year’s Future Ruins full-length on Dangerbird as evidence). And now, they’re doing it again! The band has announced a 21-date U.S. tour and details of an upcoming digital single.

The current line-up of co-founders Adam Franklin and Jimmy Hartridge, plus Mikey Jones and ex-Supergrass bassist Mick Quinn, will begin its U.S. tour on October 10 at The Casbah in San Diego. They will then head east to hit the usual stops before returning back for some west coast love in November. All forthcoming American dates are listed below, alongside lead-up shows in Japan, Australia, and UK.

As far as the future aural ruiner single is concerned, it features covers of The Supremes’ “Reflections” and “I Think I’m Going to Feel Better” by Gene Clark, done à la Swervedriver. This digital two-sider will be released on September 13 through Dangerbird.

Now, have any of you tadpoles seen my car keys? This old carp has a mall walk to get to…
