Michigan's Ghostly International is lucky Dabrye is from Ann Arbor. Having supported the man for his 2001 debut, GI was rewarded with the greatest talent in its stable of artists. Producing everything from acid-house to industrial under several aliases, many of those releases also finding their way out on Ghostly, the tunes Tadd Mullinix puts out as Dabrye are obviously hip-hop, yet are often based in ”” or at least contain ”” strong elements of electronica. The tech influence often manifests itself in the form of an abrasive synth line or menacing subbase. "Viewer Discretion" and "Special" basically join the two.
From a purely hip-hop standpoint, the dirty underground beat for "Encoded Flow" is as mean as early Cypress Hill or anything produced in the last six years. However, unlike the G-Unit suburbanites, Dabrye's beats are not mean for the sake of mean. He actually feels these beats and obviously so do the people he got to help out lyrically on Two/Three. MF Doom, Wildchild, Antipop Consortium's Beans, Vast Aire, and the sorely missed J Dilla don't just appear on any old rap album, you know. Here's looking forward to Three/Three, Tadd.
