Spinform is another in a long line of ambient acoustic (physical instruments often fractured, tweaked, and stuttering), tape hiss, abstract electronic acts. With Bryter Tystnaden, Erik Møller, who also records under the name Unai, aptly bridges the previously unknown gap between Four Tet’s folktronica and the natural-instrument-infused downtempo Benbecula Records maintains. The effect of steadily chugging, round beats, clicks for symbols, haunted-mansion feedback, and live edited piano/guitar is often hard to place. Sometimes I think I want to dance Abba style, while the meandering opener “Imperiebyggaren” just makes me want to sleep. The more bass, the more entrancing Erik’s compositions are. All in all, it’s a quality release from a label I’ve never heard of.
