Nobody - Revisions, Revisions

·

Elvin “Nobody” Estela is one of LA’s finest producers. Every album he releases finds warm critical acclaim, from his 2000 debut Soulmates to 2006’s Tree Colored See (an album produced in conjunction with Rough Trade folk freaks Mystic Chords Of Memory). But outside of and due to his own personal works, Elvin keeps pretty busy doing remixes for a wide variety of rock-oriented bands and underground rap acts. Always out to keep the fans happy, Plug Research has collected the fruits of those extracurricular works, many of which were previously available only on vinyl, for Revisions, Revisions. Here you’ll see the likes of Busdriver, Adventure Time, and Ill Suono slathered with the same psyche-pop glaze as The Postal Service, Her Space Holiday, and Domino’s Clearlake. Since it’s all Nobody at the knobs, it’s more his album than a collection of singles, but he doesn’t seem to immerse himself in the remixing process as much as, say, Four Tet (who released a similar compilations earlier in the same year). When Four Tet remixes someone, you know it’s a Four Tet remix. Though Elvin is on par with Kieran Hebden as a producer, his reworkings seem slightly less interesting. So, while Revisions, Revisions may be up to Nobody’s standards, it’s not all that essential to the non-established fan.
