There are certain sure-fire ways of putting on enigmatic airs. Purposely acting aloof, speaking in colloquialisms, taking up oddball hobbies…be the person at a house party that can tune a lute, tie a taut line hitch knot, or expertly disembowel the host and you’ll have more “Je ne c’est quoi” than you’ll know what to do with. Of course, the easiest way of appearing enigmatic is by not revealing too much about yourself. If lack of info be the guts of an intriguing person, then call Black Fly “Captain Mysterioso.” Little is known of the “Vermont artist” Black Fly but, luckily, his stylish gothic electro pop is proving to say a heck of a lot in a short amount of time.
Over the course of just three singles, Black Fly has shown to be deft at mixing mature themes with catchy bedroom beats. The song “I Don’t Know” was issued back near the beginning of the year but a video for it has not appeared, until now. And we are chuffed to deliver the premiere stuff as always. Mixed by David Tolomei (Beach House, Dirty Projectors, Future Islands), “I Don’t Know” is a more understated affair than Fly’s “Sign 2” and “Dipped” singles, but no less fetching, with an infectious, soon-to-be-trademark goth-pulse coming after an intro build. As for the video, just set your gaze upon the mesmeric planetary-geological fish-eye circling and let this reflective NRG stunner do its thing.
There is no info on any forthcoming singles or album, but that’s just the way we cryptic cats like it.
