食品祭へようこそ。
食品まつりa.k.a foodman lifts his hotdog gaze away from his electronics and offers you a banana smile. The food festival rages around him. Ladies in yukatas yell orders for tebasaki over the voices of neighboring vendors. Couples take turns scooping fish out of a shallow tank with little mesh scoops. The kids sit before 食品まつりa.k.a foodman’s stand and wait for his sounds to begin.
食品まつりa.k.a foodman hands out a leaflet with COULDWORK on the masthead, flecked with mutant kanji, important dates, and images of small animals. The kids translate it for us:
COULDWORK CD via Melting Bot: March 19.
COULDWORK cassette via Orange Milk: March 29.
The fireworks begin.
Scope out three new tracks from Japan’s finest footwork deconstructionist. They could work, and, as it turns out, they do work. 食品まつりa.k.a foodman continues to burrow his musical practice deeper into randomized chaos, crafting jams that lurch and stumble onto themselves over conflicting rhythmic grids and howls of alien synth manipulation. He strips the notions of “beats,” “songs,” and “dance music” down to fragments of meat detritus, and slaps them together in the nabe with whatever else is left in the fridge. You take a bite and you spit it back out into the nabe. Now you are the only one who gets to eat it.
