You know how pillows get flipped and squashed for maximum comfort? Well, Ben Varian’s deft compositions always deliver those good goods to your noggin, too. And on the shortness that is his latest tape, The LA Concession, them warm fully felt feels are prescribed through exquisitely parceled and practiced jams, doled out with precision and pure craftsmanship. Too much to say on the wonders of this album, to be sure. Well, only that a turn, a chance, a phrase leading to some sort of enjoyment is not something to ignore, and this here tape takes that equation and fulfills it with great pleasure, over and over. A joint for repeat listens.
