Bradford Thomas’ (a.k.a. Ohbliv) 5104: Secret Basement is an entire night of slow motion and dipped-out dancing. Sorta like waxing your kitchen floor and wearing your fuzziest socks, treats like 5104: Secret Basement make genres like footwork and juke and breakdancing bow to the simplicity of movement through facets and textures as easy as a bap-bit-of-boom. Through it’s not completely spastic or all-together planned, Bradford Thomas’ beats are as easy as any other type of tape that reels on one’s nod, yet the charm and quality of samples, improv-style mixing technique, and yoga-thai-chi pacing make me think more of just basic human fundamentals. Fluidity like a thought process, 5104: Secret Basement rides out like a stream of consciousness, almost conspicuously gaining momentum in swivel-step movements that Matrix the funk outta soul’s past.
