I think 928 / cold sweat is the last time I heard from Bryant Canelo. Wait, no, wait: it was in October when I found out he moved from NYC to Portland, so I phoned him about Brooklyn stress we mutually have, and he updated me on future projects. Oh, shit, that was in October? Yeah, Bryant and I have more recently been e-mailing a little bit on the update game and just checking in on him and Perry. But rarely does he give me end-game shit. Like, I’ll get hella tracks from him months before they even hit label years, let-alone the net. And then I stumble across Bryant’s newest release TURKISH on Psalmus Diuersae, with only two tracks on the tease: “clavish head” and “words every day.”
“clavish head” flips wonk on the techno wank where satire becomes a drive on neon streets stress free gazing until the drive pulls up to the club, but it’s really next door to a bank, and the heist is on. “words every day” humorously peaks the repetition bone, as if the monotony of life is something to trifle with, but NAH! It’s hearing the same shit over and over again until all it becomes is a drone mechanism driving heads into walls. So feel the rhythm of what happens when Bryant takes all that nonsense into a song organization so focused you’ll start losing sense of what direction your hands are best at taking. *Slap* *Grammy*
But if a pal puts in the time, so shall I, and things are ok — Bryant’s recent self-released bit of blessings — has been the majority of my listening today. So much so that when I click the Bandcamp play-button, it starts up in the middle of track four, and I accept until the (bonus) track finishes, and silence demands me to replay. Now, just hold on a second C! Are things are ok, doug? With me? Fuck no! Are things are ok with Bryant’s newest pie-eight slice of beats-turned-collage-flipped-with-avant-realism? Shit is delivered on a bike PERSONALLY by Mr. Canelo himself. Piping hot. Give him a tip where it says “BUY NOW name your price.” He’s been working harder than you think.
