Turn your speakers all the way up for British Columbian D. Tiffany whose slow-churning house tracks sport what 1080p label-head Richard MacFarlane called “the areas in-between some sort of club and anti-club dichotomy” in a great editorial covering the upswing of digital DIY labels by Adam Harper earlier this month on The Fader. D. Tiffany (a.k.a. Sophie Sweetland) uncoils some head-space hypnosis on her first physical release from her new(er) moniker. “Tranq Moon” - the top summer jam out right now tied with the entire Caustic Window LP because daaaaamn Richard Davis James is a prophet - bookends the self-titled 52~ minute tape with “I Want To,” the direct and fierce coupling of minimal techno’s intoxication and dark, driving funk build for a sweaty, strobe-lit dance party. The two stretch the pervasive mix of grooves like siblings fighting over a Macho Man Randy Savage Stretch Armstrong in the very best way possible.
D. Tiffany is out now on cassette.
