Mmhmm, oh yes, these are the inviting vibes that I (and by extension, you) seek. New Zealand’s Daif King visited the near future to record 2017 and guess what? That New-Age revival you know and love is still in full swing. Crystalline synths sparkle above sparse, programmed percussion, and there’s nary a trace of negative energy to be found in the tastefully applied washes of white noise.
So what’s changed in this Brave New Pretty-Soon-From-Now? Well, cassettes are out (sighhhh), and CDs are the hip new old format for underground wares. But 2017 is no mere audio compact disc — it’s a full-fledged CD-ROM, baby, boasting “exclusive hybrid Mac & PC multimedia content” alongside its “lush 16bit audio.” How many audio bits do we use in 2014? Probably only like 11 or something, I don’t know. But I’ll be damned if Daif doesn’t milk those bits for everything they’re worth on this excellent come-down cruise. Time travel is tough on the tendons, so be good to your body and let 2017 soundtrack your next meditational, non-denominational stretching session.
