Ethereal, resident bad boy and shining artist from Atlanta’s Awful Records (which made our Favorite 15 Labels of 2014 list), continues his megalomaniac streak with Catalyst, an eight-track release that follows his jungle-heavy Heat Death 2 and November mixtape Blackli$t. Guests include LuiDiamonds and frequent collaborator Alexandria, but this brief little headtrip is a mostly all-Ethereal affair, with Mr. Obie having written, produced, engineered, and mixed the whole hazy thing. Aqueous synth loops, spare bass tones, the piercing laugh tag, beats made of smoke, etc — it’s all here, BRO.
