It’s about damn time Golden Donna dropped a hard live set like S1’s Two Year Anniversary Party! All these subways and trains been getting me nauseous without a bit of dance floor future grind. So with perfect sound poise, expert mixing skills, and the completely tuned-in, pitched-up, and turn’t-out set of ears, Golden Donna lays this mix on listeners think like a quadruple layer of paint. Strokes and curves of melodies collide lovingly with beats both familiar and foreign, all under the umbrella where rain is gentle movements of your body with others moving just as gentle across a colorfully lit room. And a lil word or two from the most Golden [of] Donna(s):
This is my live set from the S1 Two Year Anniversary Party on 6/25. Anyone who knows me knows what a great deal this space and the people who run it mean to me. They gave me my first ever music residency back in January of 2015 and quickly became dear friends and mentors. What I’ve gleaned from being a resident and later having a studio in the space and doing sound engineer work for S1 has been absolutely priceless. I know this set is pretty raw and, sure, there are some flubs here and there, but I’m so proud of this set and I feel that it’s a true testament to what these people have pushed me toward as a live performer over the last year and a half. If you live in the Portland area, I HIGHLY encourage you to consider becoming a member, as their programming is just immaculate, and you can actually save a lot of money if you’re going to shows there. Even if you can’t make it out on the regular, I think this space is absolutely crucial to Portland, and your support can help keep the doors open for years to come.
Magic is in the breeze. All you gotta do is reach out and press play to stream the love:
