♫♪  Greg Gorlen - Spring Thaw

Obligatory weather commentary:
Oh it’s finally getting warm
Oh can’t wait for backyard BBQ weather
Oh wait now it’s snowing
Oh will this winter ever end
Oh whoa woe whoa woe

NAW DAWGS — the weather is just a figment. When you spend all your time in the basement with your tape decks, distortion pedals, contact mics, etc., the weather doesn’t matter. One man’s thaw is another man’s misery. One man’s freeze is another man’s “pshh.”

Greg Gorlen lives in San Francisco, so you know he DGAF RE: weather. He runs the label Turmeric Magnitudes, and releases music under seemingly infinite monikers (Black Thread and Vibrating Garbage principal among them). His craft astounds me, and his catalog continues to deepen with each new batch. I listen to Gorlen’s music and I hear the logical next step from the tape manipulations of Dilloway or Lescalleet, stretched into new abstracted forms, mangled under railway tracks or drowned in a bucket of tar and mop suds, goaded with clanks and squeals into a disembodied state of freeform chaos.

The new batch of tapes on Turmeric Magnitudes overflows with ideas, noises, hisses, and forward motion. Stream Spring Thaw below and ignore what is happening in the world outside. Order the physical tapes while they last.
