Trying to cram iLoveMakonnen into the mainstream rap world was a losing proposition from the beginning, so I say good fucking riddance: Makonnen’s much too unique, much too unpolished, much too bizarre to be tied to the expectations of the spotlighted rap star. And so we have Red Trap Dragon, a mixtape that follows Drink More Water 6, and it sees Makonnen hooking up with longtime collaborator Danny Wolf on all eight of its tracks. The Red Dragon flies solo for the bulk of the eight-track tape, but he swoops down on the last track, “Loaded Up,” to make sure Lil Yachty and Skippa Da Flippa say their piece too.
