Inventions, the collaboration between longtime labelmates Explosions in the Sky’s Mark Smith and Eluvium’s Matthew Cooper, saw its debut with last year’s promising self-titled. Inventions ended up a sturdy cross section of two high-octane dudes who’ve stood deep with experimental music since the mid-aughts. Now, on the verge of their second album, the duo enlisted a couple cameos for an accompanying bonus LP. And like any good buddy-cop sequel, they bring friends: The Field, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, and Leyland Kirby give their takes on “Peregrine,” “Slow Breathing Circuit,” and “Springworlds” respectively – the latter, a disciplined muffled crunch, is streaming alongside its original score below. The Maze of Woods + Remixed LP bundle through Temporary Residency Ltd. went quick, but Bella Union may have some available around the time of it’s official release *fingers crossed*.
