An example of divinatory system as structuring device - each track on Glasgow composer Iona Fortune’s debut album, Tao of I, is named for an I Ching hexagram. Fortune (the person) pairs traditional sounds (guzheng, gamelan) with Synthi AKS lows, generating a warping formulation across the record’s entirety, instrumental glints anchored to synthesizer solidity. Self-possessed and remarkably consistent, this music inhabits the play between structure and improvisation central to any human-oracle dynamic.
