Now, I realize the brand of 90% of rappers these days is “up next,” but Chicagoan Jayaire Woods is certainly in good company if he’s looking to further his career. Quality Control records, true to its name, has developed a penchant for recruiting and cultivating talent (Migos, OG Maco, Young Greatness, Lil Yachty, to name a few) since its inception back in 2013. Woods’s career forecast aside, I really do enjoy this new tape of his for its no frills, midnight-hours flow, a project that has Woods enjoying himself rather than trying to make any serious artistic statement. It’s meditative hip-hop suited for the way I consume it nowadays, whether I’m on late night drive or just sitting around with my laptop. Stream FREETHEFALL below, featuring production from VZN, Jordeaux, and Meez.
