With just over two months left before the release of Blood Bitch, Jenny Hval has decided to tide us over with the album’s second single, “Conceptual Romance.” The track finds the Norwegian artist ruminating on topics such as rejection and failure in the context of what she calls “abstract romanticism,” with lyrics like “My heartbreak is too sentimental for you” and “I lose my gaze to keep you.” It’s exquisitely produced, showcasing Hval’s ability to subtly queer an otherwise comparatively accessible song through bending pitches, stretching melodies, and toying with inflection.
Pre-order Blood Bitch here, and find something to do with your life until its release on September 30 via Sacred Bones.
