And as frosty (or Less Than Zero) as one can feel about minimal soul rap (SEE: BONES, Yung Lean, Young Braised), jimmy v really spins the distortion of rappers using effects on their voices by just going hard —even with inflection of the bass being blown— on the theme of disappear here. Purely fueled by the sludgiest of zones (minus “word of mouth,” but even then, minus that boom-beat, it’s still honey), jimmy v is relentless in consistently remaining faded. It’s a voice rarely used in rap, but always appreciated in temperament to the piece of work that it amounts to, and if disappear here is jimmy v’s recent culmination of that status quo, it’s something I entirely can fuck with.
