Juiceboxxx is back with a sick new single off his forthcoming record Freaked Out American Loser (out this summer via Dangerbird). JB has been on his own path the better part of 15 years, playing shows wherever he can, touring with acts like Big Freedia, Public Enemy, and Jeff the Brotherhood, and getting a book written about him that got blurbs from the likes of Lena Dunham and Chuck Klosterman. What a long, strange trip, indeed!
Truth be told, it’s pretty weird/surreal to see a label dropping some PR hot takes on the appeal of Juiceboxxx, since he operates far outside of the blogosphere and the social media influencers. Maybe it’s just my apprehension of seeing him approach a big audience, since for so long people beyond a certain circle didn’t know what to make of him. But maybe that anxious energy of his music will be appreciated by folks wading through the uncertainty and insanity of the circus sideshow that is American 2k17. It could also be that no one will care what I have to say, which will lead me to relate better to the new sounds of Freaked Out American Loser?
