Young kawaii royalty Kero Kero Bonito have returned with a newly frosted confection of Nintendo 64 synth tones, preset MIDI drums, and bilingual sing-song raps. Maybe you are as happy about this as I am. When that KK Rider-core vocaloid melody kicks off “Picture This,” I start to feel something like this: ╰(*´︶`*)╯Look at my little arms. They rise above my head in celebration.

KKB frontwoman Sarah Bonito addressed some pressing issues of our modern era on the trio’s debut EP Intro Bonito, including but not limited to: • the strangeness of babies • homework • societal expectations for female human beings. This time, she sets her all seeing eye on selfie culture. She decides to wait until she’s alone before taking a picture of herself. This might be proper etiquette, but who’s to say? The beat by Jamie and Gus (a.k.a. Kane West) maintains their high level of production detail and omnivorous tonal sensibilities, channeling the contemporary electronic vanguard and a lifetime of video game immersion in equal measure. Here’s to hoping that this track signals another proper KKB release in the near future.
