Typically, January is when yours truly takes a step back from newer releases, and takes comfort in the hits. As 2018 ushers in a new me, I’m thinking I’ll go the opposite: all new music, all the time, baby! And what better way to embrace the new and unknown than with an electro-acoustic drone odyssey from Matthias Urban. Part of Dinzu Artefact’s late 2k17 batch of tapes, The Galvanic Twitch scratches the itch for those noise freaks looking for their next fix. And I see where you’re going, “Oh, this came out at the end of last year. It’s not new!” Yes, you would be correct; however, I’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of Dinzu’s catalog, as my only previous listening was to Billy Gomberg’s solid Transition from early last year.
When a label offers “corrosive electroacoustic and musique concrète compositions created around chemically treated tapes,” I say, “Yes, please,” and come back for seconds. Only five copies remain of The Galvanic Twitch, and with a new batch just released, you might as well email the label your PayPal account info and write, “Take my money, please!”
