You know those nature films that Disney began releasing a few years ago? There was Earth. And Oceans. And one called Dinosaur less recently. I would watch those films muted and listen to records in place of the soundtrack. It’s not that I didn’t like the film’s music. In fact, they’ve shaped a number of childhoods (mine somewhat included) with their musicals. I even liked all those cheesy Phil Collins songs in Tarzan.
Believe You Me, the new album from OMBRE (collaboration between Asthmatic Kitty labelmates Julianna Barwick and Helado Negro), could be the soundtrack to that as-of-yet-unplanned (as far as I know) Disney’s Outer Space. The slow moving ambience, light ripples of instrumentation, and Barwick’s celestial voice would perfectly soundtrack a CG camera slowly moving through star clusters, orbiting planets and moons, and scanning the stormy surfaces of the uninhabited (?) planets of our solar system. I can imagine the IMAX experience now.
