Ian Bogost writes about rejecting “the singularity of the now in favor of the infinity of the meanwhile.” Meanwhile….infused with the inbetween and occupying itself in transit.
Drifting like ellipses, this sample track from Pontiac Streator and Ulla Strauss’s second collaboration, following last year’s Chat on West Mineral Ltd., meanders among its pieces, rejecting possession, making sure to give each a wide breadth of space.
Its pieces…all arranged in slightly wonky loops. Splotchy synths bop like those little dots, and echoing vocals bounce as pebbles skipped into the sunset across a gently rippling sea. Samples of a cheering crowd come from somewhere and work, unexpectedly, perfectly. It’s casual. Like ripe fruit hanging from a tree, falling, rolling down a hill, meeting a wanting mouth.
