Texan shoegaze quartet Rei Clone play good cop, bad cop on “(Do You Know) I Still Think About You,” a groggy single that leans in on its duality between blistering thrash and snuggly dream pop.
It’s an interrogation rendered in distortion — the titular chorus merely suggests itself through the tumult like a secret whispered in a dreamer’s ear. What’s real manifests faintly in the unreal to the same effect that “suicide” becomes “Sue is fine” in that old My Bloody Valentine song. You emerge from the track in the way you wake up and trudge to the mirror to confirm that you teeth haven’t fallen out in your sleep.
