If you found a Night People cassette in a thrift store, it’s not hard to imagine, if you had no idea about underground cassette culture, that it was a home dubbed bootleg somebody made, complete with bugged-out artwork and a matching shell-sticker to boot. I mean, remember your older cousin Stacey’s neighbor who used to make bootleg tapes with that handmade bizarre/great artwork and who would sell them at concerts for skunk money or straight up nickle bags — that is, until he drank all that turpentine on a drunken bet in the parking lot of the RHCP concert forty minutes outside of town, right before the opener took the stage, before he could even see the Chili boys and their socked noodles jam EXTRA hard for the hometowners? Remember that?
“Bath Water”, the fourth track off ex-Raccoo-oo-oon member and current Wet Hair-er Ryan Garbes newest psychedelic rectangular ripper, Life is a Bootleg, proves that Night People tapes ain’t no bootlegs. And just because “bootleg” is in the title, that doesn’t mean your judgement should be skewed by this latest CS. Thiz iz all Garbez.
