Tomás Urquieta strikes again with some industrial grimy club shit, from his Ignea EP, out via Diamante Records. “Smoke Signal” is far more influenced by vogue and uses more vocal sampling than Urquieta’s past work, but there is still that alluring techno mystery present, although now has a sassy face. This track is the standout of the EP, but by no means are the other tracks useless. Likeminded producers Sines and Imaabs deliver clubby, metallic yet organic remixes of “Smoke Signal,” and Urquieta gives us another track, “Cuerpos Sin Organos”, a darker, more mysterious journey that relies on anticipation and withholding to keep our attention. Be forewarned: That “boy” sample from “Smoke Signal” will be stuck in your head for days to come.
