I drive past my 98 year-old Grams’ house twice a day. Once in the morning to bring in the news paper so she can catch up with the world and do her word jumbles throughout the afternoon, and once in the evening (around 6:30) to pick up packages — people been stealing our boxes at the apartment — and play a few games of Yatzee. Now, she’ll never tell you, and with a hustler’s mentality, she’ll deny every word of this (as she has throughout my life), but Grams’ luck is bottomless. Yesterday, first roll: large straight. Grams says, “Ahh, look at that.” -_- First time we ever played Yatzee, as I’m explaining that she can roll a five of a kind, which is what the game is named after, she rolls a Yatzee of all ones. ONES! She got less than two more years to be the oldest, luckiest person alive, and we’re going to Atlantic City, win ALL the money, buy back Atlantic City from shutting down, pop the Playboy and Trump hotels back up, maybe get a Tropicana back in there, a three-year Lady Gaga residency at the Taj, and Grams and I will get a solid gold golf cart to transport our swag around the secret tunnels, continuing to win back our money and double it up, taking it (as if she were some reverse cooler) back from all the paying gambl —errr customers, I mean. And this is my daily spiritual journey with Grams to the top. Even though she only got two more years to 100, I’m trying to transfer her luck from her to me for future Morrisseys.
