Umberto’s Prophecy Of The Black Widow was one of my absolute favorite records of 2010. Although his output since hasn’t quite scaled Black Widow’s burnt out horror-themed heights, I can still feel magic beating at the heart of a piece like “Welcome to the Chill Zone”, a more ambient, moody cassette on the Solid Melts label. Check out Side A of the tape, a continuous ten minute build that culminates in chilling, sparkling dissonance. Kinda makes me want to knife a young girl to death.
