Occupying the space between cloud nine and your favorite PlayStation 1 demo disc, you could be forgiven overlooking “Illumina.” A two-minute cerulean jam, it navigates the ether of acid house and vaporwave, worlds increasingly blurred in Vaperror’s work. Somehow being put into a tiny EP and set off onto Bandcamp doesn’t do this fantastical, dream-like groove justice; it would be much more at home as the menu music to that vague, polygon-ridden Namco game you definitely remember more for the music than the gameplay. Only being considered in the same breath as such pleasant wistfulness would be appropriate for this latest Vaperror gem, atmospheric as ever.
