Though you may miss Thailand, it’s still nice to have you back, Yagi. Must’ve had your sampler with you there, huh? Find any good digging spots? Prolly.
Special treat, this SLOWCOLOR is. Lithe guitars, pianos, and horns, dismembered and reassembled vocals, and various other jazzy samples mesh with crisp drums. And those drums are what set Yagi’s work apart from most beat-builders. They contain a gritty quality, in that they’re heavily compressed and more than likely sourced from old records, but they’re not buried in a bed of hiss and lo-fi murk; they step forward in the mix, hitting hard and relentlessly, yet still remain fluid and smooth.
